Social integration of communities is one of the standards that Kosovo is trying to fulfill in its path towards European integration. Although in this area due to known circumstances, difficulties are not few, but it seems that in this aspect ” Qualitative Institute for Researches, Analyses and Trainings”, has found the best way to contribute to the general welfare and the fulfillment of this standard of our country. This organization took the initiative to find a common objective of the Albanian and Serb communities living in the municipality of Novoberda. In this way iCHAT initially made field research on the possibilities of how to find an alternative for cooperation between the communities living there. During this analysis iCHAT realized that Novoberda being at a suitable geographical position provides good conditions for the development of agriculture and its inhabitants have enough plant residues which ended up burned by not having opportunities to be used but only cause environmental pollution. Based on this component iCHAT designed a project for the use of these residuals and improve the environment, and within this project in cooperation with IOM (International Organization for Migration) and the Municipality of Novobërda founded the Social Enterprise QRA – Centre for Environmental Protection, which makes the production of briquette, and enabled both communities to be employed there and to develop joint activities. In this way the Serbian community integration in Kosovo society was made possible and now this enterprise functions as an important point which brings large benefitions to the municipality and the community living there. This enterprise has employed several workers of whom employed are of the Albanian and Serb communities. They jointly carry out their actions in briquette manufacturing, and supply various institutions. iCHAT in this way has found the right “key” to improve relations between communities and to contribute to the general social welfare.
iCHAT has implemented the project for the establishment of the Socially Enterprise in Novo Brdo for the production of Briquettes in cooperation with the IOM (International Organization for Migration), funded by the US Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
